The Douglas Run/Walk for the Cure cuts through the red tape when patients are diagnosed with the hardship of cancer.  Patients are in shock and not thinking about expenses--whether they be medical, traveling, food, or over night lodging.  When I have informed patients about the Douglas Run/Walk for the Cure and what it does they often respond "they  don't know me", but it doesn't make any difference.  Often, a check is in their hands the next day.  Help is there instantly.
